I notice... I wonder... I think...

As part of our Green Week Learning we have been doing lots of wondering... This is Room 25's slide for Green Week Assembly tomorrow.

Some very special writing!

During the last 2 weeks we have been learning about descriptive writing. These are the goals we have been working towards:

1. Use one simile (comparing something using the words 'like' or 'as')

2. Include the 5 senses in your description (see / smell / hear / feel / taste)

Janice Marriot is writing a book about grandparents and will choose some art and writing from Owairaka students to accompany her work.

Here is a selection of writing from Room 25. It is very obvious that we absolutely adore our Grandparents. They are very special people.

If you are feeling the 'warm fuzzies' after reading our superb writing you may also like to check out this video - We watched it as a class and thought it really captured the special bond between Grandparents and Grandchildren. It made our "hearts feel happy".

Thumbs up for Art!

Today we explored painting using sponges. We figured out lots of different ways to create effect on the paper. There are many eager artists in Room 25!

We are learning about AREA and PERIMETER

We are learning that AREA is the total surface or inside of a 2D shape. PERIMETER is the total distance around the outside of a shape.

During Maths we did a fun activity:

1. We traced around our foot in our Maths books

2. We filled the inside of our foot outline with blocks or counters to figure out the AREA

3. We counted the number of blocks or counters that it took to fill our 2D shape. Then we discussed if blocks or counters were better for calculating area (we decided on blocks because there were less gaps between each block compared to counters)

4. We compared our measurements with other people in our problem solving group and figured out which foot outline had the largest surface area and which foot outline had the smallest

5. Miss O'Shea put us in partners and gave us a length of string

6. We measured the PERIMETER by placing the string around the outside of our foot shape and then measured the string against a ruler (in cm).

Learning about AREA and PERIMETER is fun!

Make and Take

Room 25 made a difference by helping out at MAKE AND TAKE. Owairaka students loved their sandwiches, popcorn and muffins. Thank you to the health promoting team for your hard work. Here's a photo of Lucas getting ready to put the tops on the sandwiches!

We LOVE swimming!

We are having so much fun in our beautiful school pool. Miss O'Shea is soooo proud of how much we've improved.

We are learning how to swim with good technique but most importantly, our goal is to feel confident and safe in and around New Zealand's oceans, lakes, rivers and aquatic facilities.

Well done Hana!

Congratulations to Hana who was recognised in our school assembly for her enthusiastic and passionate attitude towards learning. Hana's infectious smile and kind nature makes Room 25 a very happy place to be!

Ke te pēhea koe?

We have been learning to say how we feel in Maori.
  • Ke te pēhea koe? (How are you)?
  • Kei te .............. ahau (I am .................)
This is one of the activities we used to help us learn.
