Duffy Assembly

Today we had our Duffy Assembly.  Gavin Hill spoke to us about his career in Rugby League.  His big message was that reading helped him to become a better player... He read all of the books he could find about rugby!   Francesca and Jayden are holding our Duffy books, we CAN'T WAIT to take them home tomorrow.

Race Relations Day!

Wow - We were so lucky to have these beautiful girls share their dance with us. They practiced hard leading up to the big day and the hard work was worth it!

Room 25 embraced the true meaning of Race Relations Day - Celebrating diversity and taking pride in our identity.

We began our day with a special assembly.  It was fun walking across the stage in the parade! Congratulations to Licha for the certificate she received - "For always finding the positives in everyone and for treating everyone with respect, regardless of their differences".

After assembly, we did a reading activity to match up facts with countries from around the World. We learnt how to play noughts and crosses which has been enjoyed by children for thousands of years. No matter where we go in the world we will still find similarities to other children!

Our shared lunch was at 12.30 - It was such a fantastic learning experience to try food from so many different cultures.  A huge THANK YOU to all of our wonderful families who helped to make this day so special!

Our adventure to Motat!

We had a great time at Motat! One of our favourite activities was the mirror maze! We also enjoyed learning about the development of machines throughout history.  Did you know that mobile phones used to have a battery the size of a shoe box?! Room 25 was blown away!

Swimming

Wow! We have had so much fun in swimming this term! The Greater Auckland Aquatic Action Plan (GAAAP) is a collaborative project that coordinates professionally delivered swimming lessons to primary school children in the greater Auckland region, ensuring the development of fundamental swimming and water safety skills. We have been so fortunate to have had these lessons here at Owairaka. Room 25 swimmers have all improved significantly and we feel a lot more confident in the water!

Hooray for Green Day!

On Friday 6th March we had our first Green Day for 2015! Enjoy these photos of Room 25 being environmentally active and getting into the Green Day Spirit! A big congratulations to Essa who was awarded a certificate for thinking of and acting on great ideas to care for our beautiful world - Keep up the fantastic work Essa and Room 25!

An exciting learning opportunity!

Room 25 was fortunate enough to spend some of our learning time with three Japanese Students.  We rotated around different activities - Origami, cherry tree finger painting and an introduction to Japanese language.  Big 'arigato' to Leila and her family for organising this exciting opportunity for us!
